Out of the Blue's future & how you can help

Out of the Blue is currently facing an uncertain future. The BBC has stated that it will not commission any further episodes beyond the first series, which consists of 130 episodes. However, fans still believe that there could be a future for the show and have been campaigning with this aim.

A petition - backed by some cast members - has been set up in order for fans to express their interest in seeing the show on another broadcaster. Please sign the petition if you have not already.

Success in Australia could also prove to be beneficial to the show's future. Network TEN is a channel with few Australian dramas and a high-quality show like Out of the Blue could turn out to be a great long-term investment for its schedule. Ten has a Contact Us forum on its website which allows viewers to share their thoughts with the Powers That Be. Alternatively, there are also postal addresses for this purpose. If you're an Aussie who believes that Out of the Blue deserves a better slot, write to Ten online or by letter and let them know. (Note: If you use Ten's Contact Us forum, try to look through the pages for existing threads about the show rather than adding your own - we want to be heard, but equally don't want to be a nuisance for the people who run the site.)

It's unclear if Five have any plans for the show beyond showing the repeats on Fiver. If you wish to show your appreciation for the soap, Five also has a Contact Us page. Bear in mind that Five have already been quite good to Out of the Blue, with heavy advertising on-screen and giving it some decent slots.

The BBC has given up on the show. However, if you wish to share your thoughts on the way the show has been treated, perhaps they will reconsider their 'axed within a week' approach when it comes to other projects. Check out the webform link from this page if you wish to get in touch with the BBC.

  2. I have contacted the BBC and Southern Star Entertainment, saying the following. I hope that they take heed.
"I was sorry to see that the BBC has axed “Out of the Blue” - the new Australian TV series produced by your company, Southern Star Entertainment,
to compensate for the loss of Neighbours to Channel 5. I hear that this decision was due to poor ratings.

    Neighbours, it certainly was not!

My wife and I had become devoted watchers, and had used the video/DVD recorder and BBC i-Player judiciously to ensure that we saw the whole series,
since the programmes shifted from BBC1 to BBC2 and suffered rescheduling to make way for the Olympics, golf, etc during 2008. Such action undermined
the show’s viability, disrupting the pattern of weekdays except Wednesdays.

In my opinion "Out of the Blue" was refreshingly different.

Using modern production techniques, you have achieved a very high standard, combining murder, tension, intrigue, friendship and camaraderie, sexual
chemistry and tension, good scenery and locations, good acting and dialogue, and three-dimensional characters whose lives were realistic in intricately
interwoven (but credible) plots, interspersing the hum-drum day to day activities that affect us all.

The final episode of the 130 episodes commissioned by the BBC was a cliff-hanger, and left many questions unanswered.

Although the series is being re-shown from the beginning by Channel 5 on its Fiver channel, it is not clear whether you, the producers, intend to
continue where it left off with subsequent episodes beyond 130. I hope so.

In my opinion, this is one of the best new drama series I have come across for many years."

  4. I started to watch Out of the Blue on BBC1, but couldn't get into it. HOWEVER, since it has gone over to Fiver, I love it. I watch Home and Away, as well as Neighbours, so decided to give OUT OF THE BLUE another chance. WOW, I am so glad I did, I love it, one of the best shows around. Beats neighbours hands down and on a par with Home and Away. Lets hope Fiver recommission another series, as this show is awesome. Julie

  6. Having just got to the end of series one I am devastated there's no series two. I need to know what happens. This is the only soap I have religiously watched as I enjoy it so much. It certainly out shines the other Australian soaps so they should make series two. Please make more.

  8. Whaaaaat? There has to be another series! Please don't axe it. It's the best soap that's been on the TV for years, much better than all the sad, tired usual dross. The cliffhanger episode was great - we need to find out what happens next!

  10. Right from episode one we have loved this new soap, watching avidly each day to see what happened next, despite the changes made to the scheduling. Each time it was not on (due to golf, etc.) we were disappointed and waited impatiently for the next episode.
When the series ended we couldn't believe there was not more to come. We even watched every episode again on Fiver, enjoying it just as much the second time around.
Please, please make it available once again, so we can see how it continues. Whatever channel you like, whatever time you want, even if it's only available on the Internet - at least make is accessible for fans who want to continue to watch such an enjoyable programme that "Out of the Blue" is for so many. PLEASE!!

  11. I have been looking for Out of the Blue in vain. I watched it on BBC but because it went back tothe beginning on Five waited to see when it caught up with where it had left off (if you see what I mean!) Then it went to an unearthly early hour on Fiver, and now it is gone...Where? It was so good and I want it back somewhere PLEASE and a new series too.!
